Learn About Our Wig Densities

At TressAllure, we believe beautiful hair isn't defined by one level of fullness. Some of us love a light, effortless look that moves naturally. Others feel their best with more body, volume and presence. Density is personal — and that's exactly how it should be.

Every TressAllure style is thoughtfully designed with its shape, length, texture, movement and finished look in mind. From lightweight, natural-looking styles to fuller, more voluminous silhouettes, the amount and placement of hair are selected to help each design look and perform the way it was intended.

Simply put, density describes how much hair is distributed throughout a wig and how full the finished style appears. But density isn't just a number. Hair length, layers, curls and waves, cap construction, knot placement, permatease and even the way you style your wig can all influence how much volume you see and feel. That's why two styles with similar amounts of hair can look completely different when worn.

Your perfect density may depend on…

This guide is designed to help you understand what to expect, from our lighter densities to styles with more noticeable body and volume. And remember: the density you start with doesn't have to be the way you wear it. Shake it out. Fluff it. Smooth it down. Change the part where the construction allows. Define the curls or soften the volume. TressAllure styles are created to give you the freedom to make the finished look your own.

  • Your natural hair

Do you normally wear fine, medium or fuller hair?

  • Your comfort level

Do you feel more confident with less hair, or with more volume?

  • Your favorite silhouette

Sleek and close to the head, softly full, or big and voluminous?

  • Your styling habits

Do you like wearing a style as designed, or do you frequently change your part and create different looks?

  • The style itself

A pixie, a bob, a long layered style and a curly style can each wear very differently, even within the same density category.

Density levels for mono top styles

Density level Range How it feels & looks Best for Mono top & parting
Light 100–110% Light, wearable density with soft movement and comfortable coverage. A natural, lightweight look for everyday wear, when you prefer to wear the style close to its intended design. Designed around the factory-given part for that specific style. Because fewer hand-tied knots are used throughout the mono top, areas away from the intended part may appear lighter when the hair is redirected.
Light to Medium 115–120% Light-to-medium fullness, with slightly more knots per square inch for added coverage and natural body. A balance between lightweight wear and added fullness, with more freedom to adjust the part. Additional hand-tied knots are distributed throughout the mono top, providing more consistent coverage beyond the factory-given part and allowing for some additional styling flexibility.
Medium 125–130% Noticeable fullness while maintaining a realistic overall appearance. More body, coverage and versatile parting, while maintaining a realistic overall appearance. Density around the factory-given part is more closely matched throughout the mono top, helping minimize noticeable differences when the hair is redirected. This provides greater freedom to change or customize the part.
Medium-Heavy 140–150% High-volume density with a fuller, more dramatic silhouette. Statement styles, defined curls, added body, or a glamorous finish. Greater knot distribution can provide substantial coverage and styling flexibility throughout the mono top. TressAllure uses this density selectively, primarily when the intended design and silhouette of a style require additional fullness.

Density in basic caps and lace-part styles

Unlike full mono top constructions, basic caps and lace-part constructions are not categorized by a specific density distribution. Because the hair is attached differently, density cannot be evaluated in exactly the same way as a hand-tied mono top.

Curl and wave pattern
Curls and waves naturally expand the silhouette. Shaking, fluffing or styling the hair can make a style appear significantly fuller, even when the actual amount of fiber is similar to a straighter style.
Straight texture
Straight fibers tend to lie closer together and closer to the head, which can make a style appear lighter or less dense even when a comparable amount of hair is used.
Permatease
More permatease creates lift and structure at the base, increasing the appearance of volume. Less permatease creates a flatter, more natural silhouette.
Layering and length
Shorter layers and heavily layered cuts often create more visible volume. Longer or minimally layered styles allow the fibers to fall downward and can appear less dense.
Cap construction
Basic caps and limited lace-part designs distribute hair differently from full mono tops, so density percentages should not be compared directly between these constructions.
Styling
Brushing, shaking, separating curls or fluffing the fibers can dramatically change how full the exact same wig appears.

Important: these classifications describe the visual appearance of fullness, not a measured density percentage. Two wigs containing similar amounts of hair may look very different depending on texture, curl pattern, layering, permatease, length and cap construction.

Because beauty isn't just what you wear, it's how you feel when you wear it.
